Hip Augmentation

The hip area is notoriously hard to target with diet and exercise. Many women are also looking to “feminize” their figure and fuller, shapelier hips can help balance the proportions of the body. Hip Augmentation includes hip implants or fat grafting. A hip augmentation procedure can increase the size of your hip span, improve the look of the legs, and provide a more pleasing shape to your body.

Candidates for Hip Augmentation

If you are unhappy with the shape of your hips and desire a more voluminous shape, you may be a good candidate for a hip augmentation. Hip augmentation can sculpt the waist and hips and give you a curvier figure. Candidates should be in good general health, be non-smokers, and have realistic expectations for surgery. If considering a fat grafting hip augmentation, patients should have adequate body fat.

The Procedure

A hip augmentation can involve implants or fat grafting. Implants are made from silicone, similar to breast implants. Implants can provide a natural look with minimal risk. An incision is made near the hips and implants are inserted under the muscle. Implants are recommended for patients with low body fat and is a more permanent solution than a fat grafting procedure. During a fat grafting procedure, fat is removed from another part of the body (typically the abdomen or thighs) and re-injected into the hips. This procedure is a good option for those who also want to improve the shape of another part of the body.

The Recovery

Recovery time depends on the type of procedure you choose. Generally, fat transfer hip augmentation has a quicker recovery time than implants. Most patients are able to walk a day after surgery and can return to work or normal activities within a few days, with minimal exercise several weeks after surgery.
